EIDBI, in plain English
EIDBI stands for Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention. It's a Minnesota Medicaid (Medical Assistance) benefit created to help children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related conditions build communication, social, and daily-living skills.
Think of EIDBI as the umbrella that funds the therapy your child receives — including ABA therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, parent training, and care coordination.
Who qualifies for EIDBI in Minnesota?
- The child has Medical Assistance (MA) or MinnesotaCare coverage
- The child is under age 21 (Spectrum Roots serves ages 2–13)
- The child has a diagnosis of ASD or a related condition from a qualified evaluator
- The child has a current Comprehensive Multi-Disciplinary Evaluation (CMDE)
If any of those pieces is missing, don't worry — most families start without all of them. Providers like Spectrum Roots help you get the CMDE and Medicaid coverage in place.
What services does EIDBI cover?
- Intervention services — 1:1 ABA-style therapy focused on individualized goals
- CMDE — the evaluation that confirms eligibility and shapes the plan
- ITP development — your child's Individual Treatment Plan
- Family/caregiver training — so progress carries into your home
- Coordinated care conferences with schools and other providers
How long does it take to start?
Once a referral is in, families at Spectrum Roots typically complete intake and a CMDE within 1–2 weeks, with therapy beginning shortly after authorization. We handle the paperwork side so you can focus on your child.
