Research consistently shows that starting autism intervention during the preschool years leads to stronger communication, social, and daily-living outcomes. At Spectrum Roots, we focus on ages 2 to 13 because these are the years when the brain is most responsive to learning.

    Why early matters

The earlier a child receives support, the more quickly we can build communication, play, and self-regulation skills into their everyday routines. Early intervention also reduces the need for more intensive support later.

    Signs to watch for

    • Limited eye contact or back-and-forth gestures by 12 months
    • Few or no words by 18 months
    • Loss of previously learned words or skills
    • Repetitive movements or strong reactions to sensory input
    • Difficulty with peer play by age 3
